29 Oct A Message from TeachAAPI Founding Board
Dear TeachAAPI Community,
It is with great pride and excitement that we announce the official launch of TeachAAPI (TAP) on the internet and beyond!
Come check us out at www.teachAAPI.org.
The early feedback we received from AAPI parents across greater LA supported our mission of creating a cohesive and connected community for AAPI families to share our experiences and work together to enhance our stories in our schools and across our broader network.
For those of you who are new to our community, we are a parent-led 501c3(pending) organization created in March 2021, in response to an unfortunate but familiar incident in Ann’s son’s class. A ‘benign’ joke at the expense of AAPI served as a reminder that there is still significant work to do to shape identity, drive representation and build empathy. Foundational support for our community means ensuring enhanced education to showcase AAPI contributions in US history, along with resources to inspire pride for our next generation.
With the above objectives, we have gathered a founding board of leaders who are passionate about making TeachAAPI (TAP) the organization for AAPI of tomorrow.
We invite you to share our site and our mission with your network of other AAPI families and allies.
Please also follow us on IG here. Stay tuned as we actively build up content for this channel.
Lastly, we are looking for your support and engagement in the following ways:
- Join our first family event!! – Hawaiian Hula Holiday on 11/21.
This will be a great time to learn more firsthand about TeachAAPI and meet other like-minded families in our community There will be Hula lessons, prizes and raffles, and fun for the whole family. - Tell your friends about us! Please have them join our contact list through our website.
- Consider donating to support the build of foundational resources for educators, families and children on our website.
You will find attached our one pager with board introductions and an overview on how to get involved along with an invitation for our fun family holiday event.
We would not be here without each and everyone of you! The countless zooms, coffees and knowing nods give us the fuel to continue this important work.
Thank you,
Ann Yee Kono, Renee Yang, Carol Koh Evans, Gloria Chang Yip, Ellen Chen, Calvin Cheng, Serena Chu, Hamdeep Singh, Brooke Thatawat, Jeanne Yang,
